Some features may not be available for all countries or all areas so you’re advised to check out Apple’s i. OS 9 Feature Availability webpage for more information. What’s your favorite i. OS 9 feature from the list above? We've seen rumors about smarter battery life, peer- to- peer Apple Pay payments and Face. Time Audio overtaking standard calling between Apple devices. OS 1. 1 is going to be a big deal. Here's the latest on the update. Apple's i. OS 1. 1 update marks the tenth anniversary of the i. Phone, and it's poised to grace a completely redesigned i. Phone 8 and i. Phone 8 Plus. The i. OS 1. 1 release date therefore has tremendous hype surrounding it, and we should see the first i. OS 1. 1 features this summer in beta form. Apple's still refining i. OS 1. 0 with the recent i. OS 1. 0. 3. 2 beta update, but we're already looking forward to the i. OS 1. 1 Developer Preview at WWDC 2. Here's all the i. OS 1. 1 news and rumors that we've found, along with features that we hope are at the top of Apple’s priorities list. Cut to the chase. What is it? The next version of i. OSWhen is it out? Likely June 5 announcement and September launch. What will it cost? Nothing! i. OS 1. The official i. OS 1. September, along with an i. Phone 8 and i. Phone 8 Plus, according to Apple's scheduling history. However, we expect to see i. OS 1. 1 unveiled at WWDC on June 5, 2. Apple's big keynote in San Jose. That's when we believe Apple will preview the first i. OS features. Just don't expect i. OS 1. 1 to be finished by then. With betas (including a public beta every July) there are several iterations over the course of three months. Again, this is all based on past i. OS releases rather than any news or rumors, but there’s no reason to think Apple will change its rock- solid schedule. OS 1. 1 Siri upgradei. OS 1. 1 is expected to have Siri graduate from voice assistant to full- blown a AI bot thanks to a new version of Siri. Siri in 2. 01. 7 is supposed to learn your habits and change how it treats you based on what you've done in the past. It should rival Google Assistant. Not only is Siri expected with answer your questions more quickly, it's poised to anticipate how you'd act. Now, data is more precious than minutes in most countries, so we'll see if Apple makes with a Wi- Fi only change when i. OS 1. 1 is announced on June 5. An official sleep tracking app. Apple could make quick use of its acquisition of Beddit, an app company that's been described as the 'Fitbit of Sleep tracking.'i. OS 1. 1 could get an official sleep tracking app – though we don't expect to see such an app launch right away in the i. OS 1. 1 beta. Apple could save the feature for the Apple Watch 3, but there's bound to be some sort of i. OS 1. 1 integration in order to display your sleep score and graph. Apple Pay with friends. Apple Pay is already in 1. US, UK, Australia and most recently, Taiwan. Italy will make the 1. The next big step for the i. Phone's contact's payment system may be in your pocket, with Apple taking a direct shot at popular i. OS apps like Venmo. Peer- to- peer Apple Pay payments will be a part of an Wallet app update, notes to the same Reddit post. It's said to have a social feed and i. Message integration, too. More first- party app revisions. Apple was also said to be working on a new video sharing and editing app, similar to Snapchat. We got that with Apple Clips (so far, everything rings true). But we could see the filtered video app get a proper spotlight in the camera app with the i. OS 1. 1 announcement. After all, Apple really needs to redesign its barebones camera app (Why can't you switch resolutions in the camera app instead of in the settings menu?). Apple is also apparently working on enhanced social features, according to sources speaking to Bloomberg. The company's tipped to make sharing and connectivity with contacts a system- wide feature as well, and may consolidate communications, so you can see all your SMS messages, emails and social network interactions with a given person on a single screen. OS 1. 1 low- power mode. Apple needs a small rethink on the great, but unrefined low- power mode. That could very well happen in the i. OS 1. 1 update. Rumors point to a more intelligent low- power mode that will learn your habits battery conserving habits and try to create a schedule to automatically put itself into low- power mode, according to cyanhat. It's also said to be geographically adaptive, so if you want to be in low- power mode whenever away from your house, i. OS will automatically make those changes for you. The other change we're hoping to see is bringing low- power mode out of its settings menu confines and into the Control Center. My, my, that giant Night Shift button is mighty big. Low- power mode could easily fit in half of Night Shift's Control Center real estate. Dark Mode. One thing we’re expecting to see soon from i. OS is a Dark Mode, which would make backgrounds black, so you don’t strain your eyes when using an i. OS device at night or in other dim environments. Resources for the feature have already been found within i. OS 1. 0, so it’s probably something that Apple plans to add imminently. Of course, there’s already a Night Shift mode, but that’s a bit different, as it reduces the amount of blue light rather than making the display darker. What we want to see. We don’t know much about i. OS 1. 1 yet, but we know what we want from it. Check out our wish list below and let us know if there’s anything you really want to see. Customizable Control Center Control Center is a handy shortcut to a number of toggles, but it’s not customizable, meaning that for certain options, such as music controls, you must swipe to the second tab – an annoying extra step for anyone who listens to a lot of music on their device. Worse, some actions, such as GPS, don’t have Control Center toggles at all, so we’d like to see the ability to customize both what options are displayed and which tab they appear on. Always- on display Samsung impressed us with the always- on display of phones like the Galaxy S7 – giving you a constant clock and a window onto your notifications, and we’d like to see a similar option built into i. OS 1. 1. Raise to wake makes it quicker than ever to view the lock screen, but if we just want to check the time we'd rather not have to even raise the phone, and an always- on display would be a solution. Home screen widgets. Apple’s lock screen widgets are handy, and help stop the home screen getting too cluttered, but we’d still like the option to put widgets on our home screens. It’s not just about having quick access to apps and information, but also about customizing devices to make them our own, whether that means having a big custom clock and weather forecast on our main home screen, an overview of upcoming calendar events, or whatever else. Smarter Siri. Siri is getting better all the time, but there’s still room for improvement, especially as in many ways Google Assistant has it beat. We’d especially like to see improvements to Siri’s context awareness – so for example reliably being able to answer follow- up questions without you having to clarify the subject again. Grouped notifications. Everyone likes to be loved, and there's nothing better than your Whats. App blowing up - until that is, you take a gander at your lock screen or notification bar. Currently, i. OS seems unable to group messages from the same contact, or message group, together, giving you an almost never- ending stream of notifications. Come on Apple, give us . Clear all background apps. Being able to hop quickly between different apps is handy, but sometimes we like to clean up the multi- tasking panel and start fresh. Thing is, on i. OS 1. For i. OS 1. 1 we'd love to have a . Easy video resolution changesi. OS is often thought of as simple and intuitive, and for the most part it is, but glaring usability issues sometimes emerge, and one of those is the inability to change video resolution from the camera app. Instead you have to dig down into the main settings screen, which takes time, isn’t intuitive at all and could leave some users unaware that it’s even an option. This should be an easy fix, so hopefully with i. OS 1. 1 Apple will add a video resolution toggle to the camera app itself. Improved Mail app. Apple's Mail app got a bit of love in the i. OS 1. 0 upgrade, but the new look isn't overly slick. Scrolling through an email conversation feels clunky, and rival apps such as Gmail feel better put together overall. In i. OS 1. 1 we'd like to see a cleaner, slicker and more user friendly Mail app, and if Apple wants to take a few pointers from Google's Gmail offering we won't complain. After a new tablet? The i. Pad Pro 2 could be coming soon. The latest was i. OS 9. 2, which brought the new News app to the UK and added new emoji. Read on to find out how to get i. OS 9. 2 on your device, whether your i. Phone or i. Pad will be able to run i. OS 9, and everything you need to know about i. OS 9 including features of the upcoming i. OS 9. 3. Updated, 8 August 2. Apple has now released i. OS 9. 3. 4 - a security patch - and we're pretty sure that this will be the final update before the public launch of i. OS 1. 0. Jump to our i. OS 9. 3. 4 section to find out about the security vulnerability this update fixes, and why you need to install it now. Main sections in this article: Read next: i. OS 9 review ? Traditionally point updates contain far fewer major changes than 'full number' updates, but 9. OS 9. 3. 4 fixes & new features. The last time we updated this article we predicted that, unless major security holes appear, i. OS 9. 3. 3 would be the last version of i. OS 9. Well, it looks like another major security hole did appear, because Apple has rolled out one last final (probably) update: i. OS 9. 3. 4. If you're hoping for some new features, prepare for disappointment: it's merely a security patch. But it sounds like one that's well worth installing nevertheless. The Software Update section of Settings informs you that . It transpires that the security hole could have allowed dodgy apps . There's gratitude for you.)It seems to be a pretty small and quick- to- install update. So, unless you're a jailbreaker, it makes sense to get this installed at your earliest convenience. And we really do think this will be the last update until i. OS 1. 0 launches. OS 9. 3. 3 fixes & new features. Apple has pushed its latest update to i. OS 9 through to everyone that has an eligible device. The new 9. 3. 3 update doesn't bring any new features, but addresses a lot of security holes and small bug fixes. For example, a hack was found to force- restart your device through the Calendar app - this has now been patched. Initially at its launch, as per coincidence, i. Books and PDFs were having problems after users upgraded to i. OS 9. 3. 3. Apple has since resolved the issue and pinned it down to be server- related. This could very well be the final update some devices will see, such as for the i. Phone 4. S and i. Pad 2. With i. OS 1. Apple have polished i. OS 9 with 9. 3. 3 and wish to move on to i. OS 1. 0. Upon updating our i. Phone 5s, we found the latest update bring fast annimations and improve our i. Phone's speed; thus improving user experience. Read next: i. OS 1. Phones & i. Pads. OS 9. 3. 2 fixes & new features. Apple has released a small update for i. OS users addressing a number of bugs affecting i. Phone SE users, along with a handful of other changes. Since its launch, early adopters of the i. Phone SE have been plagued by Bluetooth issues, with audio issues occurring whenever the smartphone was connected to a Bluetooth speaker, headset, etc. This update fixes that, along with a number of other sound- related activities including streaming music and GPS voice navigation. OS 9. 3. 2 also introduces the ability to run Apple’s colour changing Night. Shift feature while in Low Power mode, a feature that was originally available in the i. OS 9. 3 beta but was removed by the company with its final release. The new version of i. OS prompted an i. Tunes update too, with the most current version, i. Tunes 1. 2. 4, now available to download. While it isn’t a huge update, Apple has gone to some lengths to make the notoriously confusing- to- use i. Tunes a little easier to navigate. The company has reintroduced the sidebar menu for navigating the My Music section, allowing constant access to playlists while browsing your i. Tunes library. However, it's not great news for everybody - there are reports of the i. OS 9. 3. 2 update bricking some 9. Pad Pros. Affected users are presented with an . Apple has since acknowledged the issue, and issued a statement to Rene Ritchie at i. More: “We're looking into a small number of reports that some i. Pad units are receiving an error when updating the software. Those unable to restore their device through i. Tunes should contact Apple support.”i. OS 9. 3. 1 fixes & new features. On 6 April 2. 01. OS 9. 3. 1 which allows you to directly unlock an i. Phone without having to neither enter a passcode nor even use Touch. ID. The flaw was exploitable through Siri, but within 2. Apple - the update takes place automatically and won't require you to update your operating system. Keep on reading to find out just what's new in i. OS 9. 3. i. OS 9. Apple hosted an event on 2. March 2. 01. 6 where it announced the 4in i. Phone SE alongside the 9. Pad Pro and a flurry of new Apple Watch straps. Along with the new hardware announcements, the company also announced that i. OS 9. 3, which has been in beta testing since February (and Apple's biggest 'dot' update) was to be made available to the public on the same day (2. To get the latest software, simply open the Settings app, tap General > Software update, install the i. OS 9. 3 update and the same principle applies to any new revisions to the software. Apple announced the latest iteration of its i. OS operating system via its own website, i. OS 9. 3, back in February and promises a handful of features that users have been longing for, for quite some time. The warmer colours should make it easier on your eyes in the evening, and make it easier to sleep when using an i. OS device just before bed (as many of us do!). The update also brings password protection, along with Touch ID support, to the Notes app, allowing you to keep private notes exactly that – private. Many users use the Notes app to store important snippets of information and sometimes even passwords, which is extremely insecure and could lead to your personal information being accessed if your phone (or i. Pad, or Mac) is stolen. Apple says that with the inclusion of password and Touch ID protection, users should be free to store personal data including financial details and website logins, without worry. Although we’re happy that Apple has decided to do this, we think it’d be better suited to other native i. OS apps like the Messages app, for example. Also in the i. OS 9. D- touch enabled shortcuts for stock i. OS apps, including the Settings and Weather apps. Force- pressing the Settings icon in i. OS 9. 3 will bring up shortcuts to the Wi- Fi, Bluetooth, Wallpaper and Battery settings menus, a feature requested by i. Phone 6s and 6s Plus users since they were released in September 2. Alongside this, i. OS 9. 3 includes a number of smaller improvements to the i. OS experience, including the following: The ability to switch to corresponding apps via the Wallet app. Landscape support for more i. Phones. Siri support for new languages, including Hebrew, Finish and Malay. The ability to duplicate a Live Photo as a standard photo when exporting images from the Photos app. It offers improvements to Apple Music, making it easier to create playlists and save songs to listen to offline, as well as better browsing of Classical music. There’s also a new Top Stories section in the News app. And Mail has been improved, with Mail Drop now allowing users to send large attachments. To download i. OS 9. Settings > General > Software Update. Alternatively you may see an alert on your phone that the update is available. The company has updated it’s initial release notes with this claim. Apple had previously offered a fix that involved holding down the home and sleep/wake buttons – essentially restarting your i. Pad. Update: i. OS 9. On 2. 0 January, Apple released i. OS 9. 2. 1, a small update that can really help speed things up if you're running an older i. Phone, so we'd recommend updating. Specifically, though, Apple has noted that the update fixes an issue that could prevent the completion of app installation when using an MDM server. It suggests restarting your phone and turning on 'Set Automatically' after navigating to Settings > General > Date & Time. But that's far from an ideal solution to the problem so for now we're still waiting for a fix. OS 9 updates: What's new in i. OS 9. 1. The latest i. OS 9 update is i. OS 9. 1, which includes several changes and improvements and is the first major update to the operating system just one month after it was released. It introduces new emoji including the long- awaited middle finger, plus others such as a champagne bottle and a unicorn. In addition to the new emoji, i. OS 9. 1 also brings the News app to the UK. You can find out more about News here. There's also a new Live Photos feature that helps prevent the i. Phone 6s or 6s Plus from capturing movements like raising or lowering the phone, a problem that we'd been encountering many times prior to the update. There's also support for the Apple TV, which just became available to pre- order, and the i. Pad Pro. Read: Advanced i. OS 9 tipsi. OS 9 updates: What's new in i. OS 9. 0. 2. Before i. OS 9, i. OS 9. 0. September. It fixed bugs including one that prevented the mobile data usage from being turned on or off for individual apps, an i. Message activation issue and i. Cloud backup problems. There was also a strange bug that could cause the screen to rotate when notifications were received. OS 9 updates: What's new in i. OS 9. 0. 1. The first update to i. OS 9 came not long after i. OS 9 launched, on 2. September. It included lots of bug fixes, including one that prevented people from upgrading to i. OS 9 at all because there was a glitch with the Slide to Upgrade screen. OS 9 updates: Music Memo & Garage. Band Live Loops. In an unusual move, Apple has released a new app well in advance of WWDC 2. June complete with our first look at i. OS 1. 0. The new app, released on 2. January and available for free for i. Phone and i. Pad, is called Music Memos, and is designed to let musicians and songwriters quickly capture, organise and develop their musical ideas.
